Designtex + West Elm Masks
In the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, when PPE was in short supply nationwide, the Surface Imaging team went to work fabricating cloth face masks. With help from Steelcase and Designtex R&D it was determined that a two-layer cotton design would provide the right level of breathability and protection. While looking for a cotton source, West Elm stepped up and volunteered to donate a large supply of sheet sets that could be repurposed into masks. The fabric was shipped to Portland and the finished masks were in turn given to a non-profit healthcare organization for distribution. More than 5000 masks have been donated to date through this Designtex + West Elm partnership.
